According to Mediaite, Kennedy plans to make the announcement on October 9 in Philadelphia, with a text message viewed by the outlet stating that his campaign is planning “attack ads” against the Democrat National Committee to “pave the way” for his announcement.

A Kennedy campaign insider reportedly stated that the candidate believes he is being excluded by his own party. Because of this, reports claim that he will announce an independent run later this week.

Kennedy appears to have enough support to build an independent campaign. He recently raised millions of dollars from supporters, during a special event with rock legend Eric Clapton. He appears to be receiving support from moderate liberals, who oppose Biden’s increasingly leftist agenda.

Should Kennedy run as an independent, Biden’s chances at re-election are next to zero. Biden is already facing a third-party candidate in Cornell West, a respected black professor. Experts already feared that West would take many votes from Biden in the general election, weakening his chances against Republicans.

If Kennedy also runs as an independent, he is likely to take moderate votes away from Biden. Voters who do not want to vote for a Republican previously had no other choice but Biden. But if RFK does run as an independent, many voters will pick him over Biden.
