After Trump Skips GOP Debate – His Top New Rival’s Words Come Back to Haunt Him

What’s Happening:

We are still months away before a single voter casts their primary ballot. Voters will have to decide which candidate deserves their support. In the coming weeks and months, the GOP will be hosting debates to give voters a chance to hear from every candidate. Many wondered what Trump’s role would be in these debates. Polling has him ahead of every other Republican. And, it appears, Trump is taking that as a sign to buck political norms.

From The Post Millennial:

President Trump revealed on Sunday via Truth Social that he will not be participating in any primary debates…

“The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had, with Energy Independence, Strong Borders & Military, Biggest EVER Tax & Regulation Cuts, No Inflation, Strongest Economy in History, & much more. I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!” Trump announced.

Trump bragged that a recent poll has him leading by 62%. Because of this, Trump stated he will not attend the Republican debates. Polling from liberal outlets suggests that Trump is the far and away Republican leader.

But these very same polls could be manipulated by those outlets. Perhaps liberals want Trump to skip the debates, to hurt his chances next year. Attending the debates would be a good faith sign from Trump that he supports the GOP and is not merely running for himself.

When word came out that Trump was ditching the events, one of his rival’s words came back to sting him.

From Fox News:

Ramaswamy said Saturday he’s “fine” with Trump not showing up at the first few debates despite declaring in May it would prove Trump’s not the candidate he once was…

“It is my expectation Trump will be there because as I’ve known him he’s not a man that I know of to be afraid. He’s not somebody who’s made a habit of himself to be a coward.

Back in May, Vivek Ramaswamy appeared to scold Trump over the possibility that he would skip the debates. Ramaswamy was confident Trump would attend the debates otherwise, he would be a “coward.”

This is a biting indictment from a member of his own party. Trump seems to think that these liberal polls are accurate and that he has no reason to risk his lead by attending the debates. But Trump is not guaranteed the nomination. Every candidate deserves a chance to debate and make their case to the voting public.

For Trump to dump these debates could be proving what Ramaswamy said months ago. That Trump is too afraid to face Republicans, in light of his numerous indictments, scandals, and baggage.

Key Takeaways:

  • Donald Trump announced he would not attend the GOP debates.
  • Previously, candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said that Trump would attend unless he was a “coward.”
  • Trump appears to think he doesn’t need to attend the debates, because of his high polling.
