What’s Happening:

In just a short time, Republican candidates will attend the first official primary debate. The Republican Party is putting on the event, which should feature the top candidates running for president. But in order to qualify for the debates, each candidate has to sign a pledge.

This pledge, drafted by the RNC, requires each candidate to state they will not challenge whoever wins the nomination. That includes not running as an independent candidate. Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis had already signed the pledge. Nikki Haley just signed the pledge as well. But she made one particularly interesting edit.

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley has vowed support for the party’s eventual nominee after she signed a “Beat Biden” pledge required by the Republican National Committee (RNC) to participate in party-sanctioned debates…

Hammering down on a point she has made in the past, Haley crossed out President Biden’s name in the pledge and wrote, “President Harris,” signaling that she believes this race is not against Biden in the long run and instead against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Now, this is interesting. Nikki Haley signed the pledge required of all Republican candidates who wish to attend the debates. The header of the document is a graphic that reads “Beat Biden.” But, according to a version of the document shared by Haley’s campaign, Nikki scratched out “Biden” and wrote in “President Harris.”

This move appears to underscore something Haley–and other pundits–have claimed in the past. Many critics don’t believe Joe Biden will make it to the 2024 Election. Some have suggested that he will step down–for obvious reasons–and give the reins to Harris.

After, of course, he secures his nomination and stamps out any legitimate challenges.

Biden could retire before the election and let “Vice President” Harris take over. Haley seems to believe this will happen and signaled that much in her pledge.

Is this possible? Harris is even less liked by Americans than Biden. She has a dismal approval rating and has done less than Biden has in these last three years. But Joe has one foot in the grave. It is possible his seeming mental problems will catch up with him, forcing the Democrats to rush Harris into the position.

It would be the worst-case scenario for Democrats, but it is possible. And it seems that Haley is confident she can beat either.
