After Gaetz Fundraises Off Betrayal – Top Republican Silences Him with Brutal Response

What’s Happening:

The House of Representatives is currently embroiled in chaos after several Republicans voted to oust House Speaker McCarthy. These eight Republicans voted with Democrats to remove McCarthy.

The man who started this is Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz. The Republican had opposed McCarthy from the very start of his speakership. After threatening to move against him, he triggered the vote this week.

Soon after Gaetz turned on McCarthy, his team allegedly sent out fundraising texts and emails. One Republican was outraged that Gaetz was trying to raise support after plunging the House into turmoil. And he rebuked Gaetz before the entire Congress.

From Daily Wire:
Rep. Garret Graves (R-FL) exploded on Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) during a House floor speech on Tuesday afternoon where he pulled out his phone and showed that Gaetz was fundraising off his efforts to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the speakership…

“Text messages saying, ‘Hey, give me money.’ Oh, look at that. ‘Give me money, I filed a motion to vacate.’ Using official actions, official actions to raise money. It’s disgusting. It’s what’s disgusting about Washington.”

Florida Republican Gerret Graves heavily criticized Matt Gaetz for sending out fundraising messages off his actions that led to McCarthy’s removal. Rep. Graves rebuked Gaetz, calling the move “disgusting.”

Graves accused Gaetz of using “official actions” to raise money. He said that kind of behavior is “what’s disgusting about Washington.” Most Republicans were opposed to Gaetz’s attack on former Speaker McCarthy.

Only eight Republicans sided with Gaetz, who relied on Democrat votes to remove McCarthy from office. Critics hammered Gaetz’s actions since he had accused McCarthy of working with Democrats to pass government funding measures.

Some Republicans have accused Gaetz of using this spectacle to distract from his own ethics violations. There has even been talk of removing the Republican from Congress, over these claims.

Rep. Graves further rebuked the “small group of Republicans” in the House who repeatedly opposed conservative plans. McCarthy had previously attacked Gaetz and his allies for opposing conservative bills that would have cut spending and saved taxpayer dollars.

Key Takeaways:

  • Republican Rep. Garret Graves criticized Rep. Gaetz for fundraising off of the removal of Speaker McCarthy.
  • Graves claimed Gaetz’s actions were “disgusting.”
  • Gaetz and seven other Republicans joined with Democrats to remove McCarthy.
