Recently, social media mogul and billionaire innovator, Elon Musk, traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border. The businessman, who relocated his companies to Texas not long ago, streamed live video with county sheriffs, local leaders, and congressmen. He discussed the growing explosion of illegal crossings into the U.S.

There’s no doubt Musk’s video brought the issue to the attention of many Americans. Numerous citizens already knew about the crisis; but there were plenty more who were in the dark, thanks to the administration’s ongoing denial.

Musk revealed that tens of thousands of migrants were illegally entering the country, per day. These migrants were overwhelming border communities. Now, just days after Musk’s visit, the administration made a startling announcement.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said on Monday that the dire conditions on the U.S.-Mexico border allows the administration the legal right to waive dozens of laws and regulations in order to rapidly build sections of border wall in areas of south Texas that are being overrun by illegal aliens.

The Biden administration had long denied the growing migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. For years, the White House dismissed calls for increased security. Border Patrol and the DHS did not turn migrants away but had been forced to welcome them into the country.

But just days after Elon Musk reported on the crisis in person, DHS head Mayorkas announced major changes. The administration is reportedly waiving dozens of environmental and other laws so it can quickly build border walls around unsecured portions of Texas.

Mayorkas essentially admitted defeat in his announcement, pointing out the 250,000 illegal aliens who entered… just in the month of August. Border states have been overwhelmed as Northern blue cities feel the impact of the crisis.

The administration will reportedly waive 26 laws to quickly begin construction. Under President Trump, 450 miles of border fencing was erected, with much more planned to be completed. Biden had immediately canceled the project on his first day in office–vowing that not a single new mile of wall would be put up.

Biden left millions of dollars worth of material to decay in the desert, as crews were sent home. In the years that followed, over 3 million illegal border crossers entered the country. These migrants have overwhelmed border states, with Biden bussing many of them into the interior of the country.

It’s unclear why the DHS is suddenly reversing three years of policy to finish the border wall. Musk’s attention to the crisis might account for a part of it. But Democrat mayors in blue cities have been demanding action from the administration for months.

Whether current migrants will be deported remains unknown.
