For most of Joe Biden’s presidency, southern states like Texas have begged for help in dealing with the surging border crisis. With historically high encounter and arrest numbers, Americans are growing increasingly concerned.
And Texas officials have countered the argument that the border is “secure” in recent weeks. They say it absolutely isn’t, and now the flood of unauthorized travelers is hitting everywhere.
This includes cities like Washington D.C. and New York City, where their Democrat mayors are calling it a “humanitarian crisis.”
Many Republican leaders quickly shot back, saying it has been a humanitarian crisis from the start, and these Democrats are only willing to believe it when the problem lands on their own doorsteps.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott was one of the first to fire back, saying Texas has been dealing with this issue for years now.
Now, after New York City Mayor Eric Adams begged for “financial and technical resources,” and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser requested National Guard assistance, Gov. Abbott has a message for both.
From Fox News:
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott invited to the mayors of New York City and Washington DC on Monday to visit the southern border and witness firsthand the record levels of illegal immigration taking place.
Abbott penned a letter to the Mayors in question, saying that their “recent interest in this historic and preventable crisis is a welcome development,” primarily because the Biden administration has “shown no remorse” and “no desire to address the situation.”
But the Governor didn’t stop there.
He continued by sending over an invitation, and it’s one he’s sent before: he wants these leftist leaders to come see the southern border crisis for themselves.
As Governor, I invite you to visit our border region to see firsthand the dire situation that only grows more urgent with each passing day, and to meet with the local officials, who like yourselves, realize this matter deserves immediate federal action.
In May, Customs and Border Protection saw a record 240,991 encounters, and another 200K+ flooded across in June.
In 2021 alone, over 1 million undocumented travelers came into the U.S., though certain reports say the number is closer to 2 million, as some say at least 800,000 evaded border authorities entirely.
They seem to keep breaking records and yet, very little has been done by either President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris to fix the crisis.
Just last week, we heard reports that they finally intend to fill in a few gaps in the border wall. However, that’s a far cry from the level of security that’s required, according to most border officials.
In response, Gov. Abbott launched Operation Lone Star in 2021 to protect his state. They’ve apprehended hundreds of thousands since then, and Abbott made it plain they’re doing Biden’s job for him.
So now, Texas invites Bowser and Adams – and any other Democrat who wishes to see the truth of the situation firsthand – to the border. We’ll have to see if anyone accepts the invitation.
- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent Democrat mayors Eric Adams and Muriel Bowser an invitation to the southern border.
- This comes after both mayors requested aid to deal with the flood of illegal immigrants in their cities.
- Abbott says they should come down south and see the “dire situation firsthand.”
