Top Democrat Defies Party in Surprise Move – Condemns Woke Agenda with 2 Words

If we know one thing about the Democrats—it’s that they stick together. Even when a Democrat is caught in a scandal or indictment, the party rarely abandons them. That is why they often dominate in elections; they refuse to turn on their own.

Unlike Republicans, who frequently turn on their own party for their own advancement.

But in this one case, a state Democrat openly defied one of his party’s biggest golden calfs. During a vote that would give families a major boost, he supported the move. And he shut down Democrats’ precious plans with two words.

From Daily Wire:
A speech from a Democrat representative in favor of a school choice bill went viral as the Louisiana House voted overwhelmingly on Monday to pass the measure, which now goes on to the state Senate…

The bill passed the House 72-32 with 65 Republicans and seven Democrats backing the bill.

“As I watch children in poverty, trapped in failing schools, who can hardly read, I’d be damned if I will continue to defend the status quo,” Hughes said in his speech, which was viewed over half a million times on X. “Too many of our children are dropping out, and then we wonder why we have to have a crime session.”

Rep. Jason Hughes, a state representative from New Orleans, gave a passionate speech in support of a school choice bill. School choice is a wildly popular measure among parents and families that provide education dollars directly to students.

Democrats have strongly opposed school choice, siding with corrupt teachers’ unions—who stand to lose funding over the policy.

But Hughes blasted the status quo in Louisiana. He shut down Democrats’ much-beloved public school system calling them “failing schools.” He said that children in his district are trapped in these crumbling institutions and care “hardly read.”

Many Americans have criticized public schools, which take tax dollars but continue to fall behind other countries in educational standards. School choice has provided families with the chance to pick the best schools, including private or charter.

The bill passed with large support from the state House and moved to the state Senate.

Key Takeaways:

  • A Democrat from Louisiana gave a speech supporting school choice.
  • He rebuked Democrat-backed public schools calling them “failing schools.”
  • Democrats usually oppose school choice to protect corrupt teachers’ unions.
